Our Father's Plan

Have any of you ever wondered "what is the purpose in life" or "why am I here"? Well you wouldn't be alone if you have. People throughout all time have asked themselves those questions. It is a question that some think may just not be possible to answer, but that is not the truth the truth is that God has revealed those answers and many more through modern day prophets on the earth. That is the great message that we as Latter- Day Saints share that there is a living prophet on the earth today and that God restored His authority to the earth through the Prophet Joseph Smith in these latter days. So that may make you wonder what is the answer to that question? Well I will refer that answer to a Prophet from the Book of Mormon named Alma he said "For behold, this life is the time for men to prepare to meet God; yea, behold the day of this life is the day for men to perform their labors." (Alma 34:32) The Prophet Nephi also wrote"And the days of the children of men were prolonged, according to the will of God, that they might repent while in the flesh; wherefore, their state became a state of probation, and their time was lengthened, according to the commandments which the Lord God gave unto the children of men. For he gave commandment that all men must repent; for he showed unto all men that they were lost, because of the transgression of their parents." (2Nephi 2:21) This life is our time to prepare to meet God and do things that will help us to progress and become more like Him. He has given us a time in which we can repent and change and we can overcome our natural man and one day live with him again. That is why God sent His Son Jesus Christ to come to this earth and atone for our sins. This life isn't a predestined vacation in which our choices have no effect on our eternal salvation. We have the ability to make choices to choose between good and evil, right and wrong. Why not take this precious opportunity that our Loving Father In Heaven has given us to do what we were sent here to do. He has given us this opportunity to learn and grow and we do that by following His will for us and keeping His commandments. Does that mean that we are all going to be perfect? No, we all make mistakes that is what the Atonement is for. We can be cleansed through faith on Jesus Christ and repentance and then we become stronger. Our Father In Heaven's plan for all of us is perfect and He wants all of us to return and live with Him someday and it is possible. May all those who have doubts or may be in despair know that God does have a plan for each and every one of you and He loves you and desires your happiness. I will close with the lyrics to a hymn that very much apply "I am a child of God, And he has sent me here, Has given me an earthly home With parents kind and dear, Lead me, guide me, walk beside me, Help me find the way. Teach me all that I must do To live with him someday." (Hymns, no. 301)
